What's the difference between Home Emergency Cover and Home Insurance?

Home Insurance and Home Emergency cover are very different policies. Basically, Home Insurance will tend to cover you for the actual damage caused by a specific event e.g. the cleaning or replacement of a carpet due to someone accidentally spilling paint on it, or repairing the damage caused to the roof following a bad storm etc but it won't cover you to resolve the actual emergency. Home Emergency cover protects you against the actual Home emergency - (electrical, plumbing, drainage or heating) e.g. getting a heating engineer out to you at Christmas to get your heating and hot water up and running again after your boiler has broken down, getting a plumber out in the middle of the night to fix the leak coming through your bedroom ceiling etc. Home Response 24 takes the hassle out of you finding a reputable and skilled tradesman as well as covering your call out and labour charges (see Membership section) in the event of a Home emergency. Home Response 24 will appoint and provide you with a fully qualified and authorised repairer and will also fully manage your Home emergency from the moment you call to advise us of the problem, to the moment the authorised repairer has completed the job and left the premises. And, it doesn't just stop there, Direct Line will also provide you with a 12 month guarantee on all permanent repairs.
